To: Subscribers: -NOAA Weather Wire Service -Emergency Manager Weather Information Network -NOAAPORT -Other NWS Partners And Employees From: NWS Tallahassee Office Name: WFO Tallahassee, FL Subject: Change in Weather Balloon Launch Frequency The National Weather Service in Tallahassee will be switching from twice-daily weather balloon launches to once per day at 12z beginning on March 1st, 2022. Due to a nationwide helium supply shortage, we will be unable to regularly launch two weather balloons per day. The reduction of launches will have no impact on severe weather operations or our ability to warn on dangerous storms in accordance with our mission to protect life and property. In addition, if significant weather conditions develop, we will have the ability to launch additional weather balloons in support of these events. We will provide you with additional updates for the resumption of routine twice-daily launches. If you or your organization have any questions about these changes, please contact our Meteorologist-in-Charge Felecia Bowser. Phone: 850-942-8833 ext. 222 E-mail: felecia.bowser@noaa.gov $$
