EARLY THIS MORNING SKIES WERE PARTLY CLOUDY ACROSS THE REGION. WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS WERE DEVELOPING OVER PARTS OF CENTRAL ILLINOIS. TEMPERATURES AT 5:00 AM CDT RANGED FROM 71 AT ST. LOUIS TO 67 AT QUNICY. A LARGE AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE EASTERN SEABOARD COMBINED WITH A DEEPENING AREA OF LOW PRESURE OVER CENTRAL NEBRASKA WAS BRINGING UNSEASONABLY WARM AIR OVER MUCH OF THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY REGION. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO REACH RECORD LEVELS WITH HIGHS IN THE LOWER 80S IN THE NORTH AND PARTS OF CENTRAL MISSOURI AND THE MID 80S OVER EAST CENTRAL THROUGH SOUTH CENTRAL MISSOURI AND PARTS OF SOUTHWESTERN ILLINOIS. THERE IS AN OUTSIDE CHANCE FOR LATE DAY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER NORTHERN AND PARTS OF CENTRAL MISSOURI. A COLD FRONT WILL BE APPROACHING MISSOURI FROM THE WEST LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT. THE FRONT WILL BRING AN INCREASE THREAT OF SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OVER MOST SECTIONS OF MISSOURI. SOME OF THE STORMS MAY BECOME STRONG. LOWS TONIGHT ARE EXPECTED TO FALL INTO THE LOWER 50S IN THE NORTH AND THE MID TO UPPER 50S OVER CENTRAL AND EAST-CENTRAL AND ADJACENT SOUTHWEST ILLINOIS. FOR SATURDAY COOLER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OVER MUCH OF THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY REGION AS TEMPERATURES ARE ONLY FORECAST TO RISE INTO THE LOWER 60S IN THE NORTH AND THE MID TO UPPER 60S FROM CENTRAL MISSOURI THROUGH SOUTHWEST SECTIONS OF ILLINOIS. $$ RP
