A storm system triggered several short-lived tornadoes across parts of central Georgia during the afternoon of New Year's Day. NWS Peachtree City/Atlanta has verified storm damage reports from county emergency managers, and reviewed detailed radar data to confirm the following tornadoes. There could be additional tornadoes added to this list in the coming days as we collect more information from other counties. .Taylor County Tornado... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 75 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.9 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: Jan 01 2021 Start Time: 2:01 PM EST Start Location: 5.1 miles N of Butler Start Lat/Lon: 32.632 / -84.256 (estimated) End Date: Jan 01 2021 End Time: 2:05 PM EST End Location: 6.8 miles NNE of Butler End Lat/Lon: 32.657 / -84.216 (estimated) Survey Summary: Based on ground surveys and radar data, a weak tornado intially touched down just north of Butler in Taylor county, near the intersection of Jack Peed Road and Hwy 19. Several small to medium-sized trees were either snapped or uprooted with debris thrown across the highway. Additional damage was noted near the intersection of Lt Peed Road and E Old Wire Road (208) where several more trees were seen snapped or uprooted along with minor roof damage to a home. Thanks to a WLTZ meteorologist for their assistance in verifying the damage reports. .Crawford County Tornado... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 75 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.9 miles Path Width /maximum/: 100 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: Jan 01 2021 Start Time: 2:18 PM EST Start Location: 5.8 miles NW of Roberta Start Lat/Lon: 32.774 / -84.093 End Date: Jan 01 2021 End Time: 2:20 PM EST End Location: 3.5 miles WSW of Musella End Lat/Lon: 32.782 / -84.082 Survey Summary: A mini-supercell produced a brief tornado over rural northwest Crawford County. Multiple trees were down along Hopewell Road West and Taylor Road. Part of a roof from a home came off in this area as well. No other notable damage was seen beyond Taylor Road and radar indicated weakening of the storm. .Monroe County Tornado #1... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.2 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: Jan 01 2021 Start Time: 2:35 PM EST Start Location: 7.8 miles ENE of Culloden Start Lat/Lon: 32.897 / -83.959 End Date: Jan 01 2021 End Time: 2:37 PM EST End Location: 9.0 miles ENE of Culloden End Lat/Lon: 32.904 / -83.940 Survey Summary: A cyclic min-supercell produced another tornado in southwest Monroe county, not long after the Crawford county tornado. Multiple trees were reported down along Treadwell Road, just before Rogers Church Road. Up to 10 structures saw some damage along with a garage completely destroyed. .Monroe County Tornado #2... Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 95 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.5 miles Path Width /maximum/: 200 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 1 Start Date: Jan 01 2021 Start Time: 2:51 PM EST Start Location: 7.9 miles ESE of Forsyth GA Start Lat/Lon: 33.0057 / -83.7998 End Date: Jan 01 2021 End Time: 2:55 PM EST End Location: 5.7 miles SSE of Juliette End Lat/Lon: 33.0312 / -83.7509 Survey Summary: Another tornado spawned from a cyclic mini-supercell hit an area just south of Lake Juliette in eastern Monroe county. Based on radar picking up a Tornado Debris Signature (TDS), damage started in a rural area between Rumble Road and Dames Ferry Road. The tornado moved northeast and snapped or uprooted multiples trees along Dames Ferry Road, while flipping a mobile home on its side. This damage along with velocity data from radar suggests the tornado reached EF-1 intensity with max winds of 95 MPH. The tornado lifted around US Hwy 23/GA 87 just north of the Dames Ferry Road intersection.
