Forecast discussion for routine morning forecast issuance

.SHORT TERM...Today...Tonight...and Saturday
Issued at 337 AM CDT Fri Apr 23 2021

Middle and high clouds will increase today in warm advection
ahead of a weak upper trough. A few light rain showers or
sprinkles are possible in central and northcentral Wisconsin
in the afternoon and evening, with some virga further east
where the air is drier. Highs today will be close to normal.

Some light rain may arrive in northcentral Wisconsin late tonight
along a cold front and somewhat stronger upper trough. CLouds and
a breeze will keep temperatures a few degrees above normal.

The cold front will move slowly across the region Saturday,
accompanied by light rain showers. Cold advection behind the front
will make for much cooler temperatures across northcentral
Wisconsin, with temperatures moderately cooler across the
remainder of the area. A few snow showers are possible across the
far north as the precipitation ends in the afternoon.

.LONG TERM...Saturday Night Through Thursday
Issued at 337 AM CDT Fri Apr 23 2021

Unsettled weather is expected next week. A west-east upper level
flow will control the weather pattern at the beginning of the
week. Surface-based low pressure along the front range of the
Rocky Mountains will expand east and generate a chance of light
snow showers early Monday morning, mainly for areas north of
Highway 29. There will be at least a slight chance for rain
showers across the region thereafter until Tuesday evening when
precipitation chances increase significantly as upper-level low
pressure troughing deepens over the western U.S. The surface-
based low pressure system over the Midwest will have tapped Gulf
of Mexico moisture by this time and scattered thunderstorm
activity is expected by Tuesday evening.

.AVIATION...for 06Z TAF Issuance
Issued at 1039 PM CDT Thu Apr 22 2021

Clear skies will remain in place across the region for the early
overnight hours. A brief window for LLWS some wind shear is
possible overnight as the atmosphere decouples, with values around
30 to 35 knots off the surface, but this will dissipate again as
we get into the mid-morning hours. An approaching disturbance will
then bring lowering CIGs Friday, with MVFR likely by the early
afternoon and possible IFR CIGs by the evening as showers move
across the region.
