Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
216 PM MDT Mon May 12 2014

.DISCUSSION...The Northern Rockies region will be experiencing
warmer and mostly dry conditions through the remainder of the week
as a ridge of high pressure shifts directly over the area by
Thursday. A warming trend with temperatures warming into the 70s
and low 80s by Wednesday and Thursday.

There is a chance of late day showers and even a thunderstorm along
the Continental Divide on Thursday and Friday as some moisture
moves through the ridge.

Saturday and Sunday...A trough of low pressure will be moving into
the Northern Rockies region bringing increased moisture and cooler
temperatures back once again. Cooler temperatures actually will aid
in slowing the snow melt and hopefully reduce any potential for
flooding.

&&

.AVIATION...High pressure ridge will continue to shift slowly
eastward towards the Northern Rockies region during the next 24
hours. Conditions will be favorable for aviation operation through
Tuesday.

&&

.HYDROLOGY...Warmer temperatures will accelerate the melting of
a substantial mountain snow pack currently sitting at 140 to 200
percent of normal for this time of year. Small streams and creeks
will be the first to experience significant rises in water levels
(Wednesday and Thursday), while larger (main stem) rivers will see
rises in levels Friday and Saturday. No flooding is anticipated at
this time, but we urge folks living near area waterways to monitor
rising water levels.
