A National Weather Service Melbourne damage survey confirms that
an EF-0 tornado impacted portions of Martin and St. Lucie counties
on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The EF-0 tornado was one of several
tornadoes to impact the area as Hurricane Milton's outer rainbands
swept across the Treasure Coast.

The tornado touched down in a wooded area to the south of the SW
Martin Hwy and I-95 Interchange. Martin County Fire Rescue
reported a tractor trailer was flipped by the tornado near mile
marker 109. The circulation continued north along the interstate,
downing numerous trees along its path with estimated peak wind
speeds of 75 to 85 mph.

As the tornado moved north-northeast into the Rosser Reserve
subdivision, numerous residential structures experienced minor to
moderate damage in the form of damage to shingles, soffits, and
gutters. The system subsequently impacted the Hidden Oaks
community where a home experienced major damage when part of its
roof was peeled back due to winds of up to 85 mph.

The circulation appeared to have weakened as it continued north
into St. Lucie West with little more than large branches and a few
downed trees noted. A few homes in the Torino area of Port St.
Lucie had mainly minor damage to roofs and siding. The tornado
appears to have lifted as it approached the I-95 and Midway
Interchange.

The National Weather Service Office in Melbourne sends its
sincerest thanks to Martin and St. Lucie County, as well as the
City of Port St. Lucie, Emergency Management and other partners
for their extensive and ongoing coordination. Appreciation is also
extended to local broadcast media, trained spotters, and local
residents for providing information before and during the storm
survey.
