The National Weather Service has determined that a brief and weak EF0 tornado occurred on Tuesday evening in Martin county. Pictures, damage reports from emergency management and radar data all support a weak tornado that reportedly skipped across the area and was only on the ground briefly. Small trees and larger tree limbs down were the only damage reported. ...Tornado #1... Rating: EF0 Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.77 miles Path Width /maximum/: 20 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 07/09/2024 Start Time: 07:21 PM EDT Start Location: 4 NW Shoals / Martin County / IN Start Lat/Lon: 38.7084 / -86.8399 End Date: 07/10/2024 End Time: 07:24 PM EDT End Location: 4 NNE Loogootee / Martin County / IN End Lat/Lon: 38.7283 / -86.8606 Survey Summary: Eyewitness accounts indicate a brief and weak tornado was skipping across this area with damage noted in two locations. A few trees were down across Dover Hill road and also on Killion Mill Rd. Pictures also showed a funnel cloud southeast of Loogootee but no damage has been reported from that area as of this time.
