...SURVEY OF FLOODING IN EASTERN BROWARD COUNTY...
...APRIL 12-13, 2023...

.Overview...A slow-moving frontal boundary across South Florida,
in combination with a deepening low pressure system in the Gulf of
Mexico, led to prolonged periods of very heavy rainfall across
much of Southeast Florida from the midday hours of Wednesday,
April 12th to around midnight on Thursday, April 13th. The
heaviest rainfall and highest amounts were in Broward County.

Extremely high rainfall amounts in excess of 20 inches were noted
near and around Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.
An area of 15-20 inches was also noted from the Hollywood and
Dania Beach areas north to Fort Lauderdale.

While flood waters had receded in many areas as of this morning,
some areas were still experiencing severe flooding in the most
affected areas indicated above.

Following is a summary of surveyed flooding from Fort Lauderdale,
Dania Beach, and Hollywood. Pockets of deep standing water were
also observed in nearby areas, and the survey indicated below
focused on the most affected areas.

.Fort Lauderdale...

Deepest standing water surveyed in the Edgewood neighborhood just
north of Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, where
several streets were still impassible and isolating the
neighborhood from the surrounding area. A still water mark of just
over 3 feet was measured at a building at Floyd Hull Stadium
adjacent to the street. Another still water mark of 2.8 feet was
measured on a building off SE 17th Street and SE 3rd Avenue, where
numerous vehicles, including county buses, were stranded. Areas
of 1-2 feet of flooding were surveyed near and north of Downtown
Fort Lauderdale. The New River near downtown was less than a foot
from its banks.

.Dania Beach...

Several streets, parks, and open areas had deep standing water of
1-2 feet, with water marks reflecting these values observed on a
few structures adjacent to streets.

.Hollywood...

Areas of deep standing water were noted near TY Park west of I-95,
where 1-2 feet of water still covered streets in some
neighborhoods.
