The atmosphere became moderately unstable ahead of a cold front approaching from the north and a dry line approaching from the west. Deep layer and low level wind shear increased during the afternoon and evening across the area, and became very strong by early evening. The combination of moderately strong instability and strong to very strong wind shear resulted in some supercell thunderstorm structures, as well as eventually a severe squall line that moved through the region. A supercell thunderstorm produced a long-track, violent tornado in Lamar County, Texas, and an NWS damage survey team confirmed that this tornado continued into and across much of Choctaw County, Oklahoma. It remained a strong tornado in Choctaw County, with an EF-2 rating for that segment. The damage from that tornado was surveyed by NWS Tulsa meteorologists Saturday. Another tornado developed in far northern McCurtain County and moved into southern Le Flore County near Honobia. A tornado also developed near Heavener. Damage from those tornadoes, which moved through extremely rough terrain, were surveyed Sunday. Additional tornadoes were confirmed through damage surveys on Monday, including one near Mansfield AR, one near Hammond Mountain AR, one near Branch AR, and another near Etna AR. Details for all of these tornadoes are below. Additionally, tornado damage has been confirmed through a survey by county emergency management west-southwest of Altus AR and south of Ozark AR. This damage is coincident with a radar detected tornadic debris signature, which continues across the Arkansas River southwest of Altus where more tree damage was found. Details for this tornado are also below. Our survey team attempted to investigate a persistent radar detected tornadic debris signature in far eastern Sebastian County and southwest Franklin County south-southwest of Charleston on Monday. The area was inaccessible due to active training on Fort Chaffee. The entire path appears to remain over Fort Chaffee. Currently, this tornado will be rated EF-Unknown due to the inability to investigate the area where the tornado likely damaged trees to produce the debris signature on radar. Two tornadoes and a swath of wind damage occurred Friday evening with a line of thunderstorms that moved across Madison and Carroll Counties in northwest Arkansas. The tornadoes developed with an area of rotation at the north end of the lined called a comma head circulation. .SAWYER OKLAHOMA TORNADO...
