RECORD EVENT REPORT

...RECORD LATEST SNOWFALL FOR PORTLAND METRO AREA...

A rare event occurred in the past 24 hours--April snow. A cold air
mass along with the perfect trajectory of a low pressure system,
brought heavy wet snow to the extreme corner of northwest Oregon and
southwest Washington. Many areas around the Portland/Vancouver metro
area received 2 to 4 inches of very wet heavy snow, with heavier
amounts over the higher hills above 500 feet elevation. The weight
of the snow snapped tree branches and brought many shrubs and bushes
down to the ground. Breaking branches also brought down power lines,
especially for those on the hills around the metro area.

While it is not uncommon to see snow on the higher hills around the
region in April, it is indeed very rare to see snow down to the
valley floor. For much of the Portland/Vancouver metro area, this
is the latest measureable snow in the spring.

based on nearby storm spotter and public reports.
