Rating: EF0 Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.4339 miles Path Width /maximum/: 10.0 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 10/09/2021 Start Time: 07:21 PM CDT Start Location: 7 ENE Dumont / Traverse County / MN Start Lat/Lon: 45.7613 / -96.2861 End Date: 10/09/2021 End Time: 07:23 PM CDT End Location: 6 WSW Herman / Traverse County / MN End Lat/Lon: 45.7749 / -96.2648 Survey Summary: Tornado damage was first observed just to the northeast of the intersection of 620th St and 760th Ave where a single cottonwood tree in a line of trees was snapped at the base. About a mile to the northeast on 770th Ave another cottonwood tree had a large branch broken and leaves and twigs were scattered sporadically on all sides of the road. The tornado then damaged a farmstead. An empty grain bin was removed from the base and was lofted and rolled roughly 0.4 miles to the northeast. Additional metal debris was also noted along this path. A metal pole barn lost a section of its roof and had a wall panel pushed in. Smaller outbuildings were also damaged. ...October 13th Tornado East of Wheaton, MN... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 87 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.4545 miles Path Width /maximum/: 10.0 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 10/13/2021 Start Time: 4:20 PM CDT Start Location: 6 SW Norcross / Traverse County / MN Start Lat/Lon: 45.8019 / -96.293 End Date: 10/13/2021 End Time: 4:24 PM CDT End Location: 6 SW Norcross / Traverse County / MN End Lat/Lon: 45.8076 / -96.2894 Survey Summary: A tornado touched down east of the intersection of MN Hwy 27 and 760th Ave. An eyewitness was outside at the time and observed the tornado touch down in a corn stubble field just south of MN 27. The resident quickly sheltered indoors. The tornado tracked north across MN 27, damaging the farmstead. A tree was uprooted and fell toward the house damaging the deck. Minor shingle damage occurred to both houses on the property. Several pieces of farm implements were slid or moved several feet from their original locations, including a snow blower attachment and hay bale trailer. A large machine shed lost a quarter of the roof. Debris from the roof was tossed to the north, northwest about 80 yards. Large branches were broken from the shelter belt. Sheet metal debris was lofted roughly 200 yards into a nearby field to the north. Damage was also evident in a corn crop north of the farm, ending the roughly 0.5 miles long path. ...October 13th Tornado North Northwest of Wheaton... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.8108 miles Path Width /maximum/: 20.0 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 10/13/2021 Start Time: 04:18 PM CDT Start Location: 1 ENE White Rock / Traverse County / SD Start Lat/Lon: 45.9346 / -96.5524 End Date: 10/13/2021 End Time: 04:24 PM CDT End Location: 2 E Blackmer / Traverse County / ND End Lat/Lon: 45.9751 / -96.5564 Survey Summary: The first evidence of the tornado was found in a convergent damage pattern on the south side of a corn field at the intersection of Traverse County Highway 9 and 740th St. The tornado tracked almost due north, damaging a farmstead just south of 750th St. A pine tree was snapped at the base. A quarter of the roof of a metal pole barn was ripped from steel rafters and tossed to the west northwest, damaging a power line. Another pole barn was completely destroyed. The southwest side of the pole barn had poles lifted entirely out of the ground while east side walls remained intact. Some sheet metal from the barn was lofted into a tree shelter belt just to the north. Evidence of the tornado continued a mile north where downed tree branches and tree debris were noted crossing 760th St. The last signs of the tornado damage was just south of 770th St where a grain auger and hay trailer were flipped on their sides.
