970 NOUS42 KJAX 081958 PNSJAX FLZ125-325-GAZ166-090800- Public Information Statement National Weather Service Jacksonville FL 358 PM EDT Thu Jul 8 2021 ...NWS Damage Surveys for Damaging Tornadoes on July 7th... .Overview...As Tropical Storm Elsa moved northward across the Florida Big Bend region and through southern Georgia, cyclic supercell thunderstorms developed, embedded in a primary outer rain band on Elsa's east side. As these supercells moved rapidly northward, damaging tornadoes touched down in south central Duval County and then over eastern Camden County. Both tornadoes produced significant damage, with the Camden County tornado resulting in approximately 17 injuries at the Eagle Hammock RV Park near the U.S. Naval Submarine Base at Kings Bay, GA. .Duval County Damaging Tornado... Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 105-110 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.75 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 07/07/2021 Start Time: 4:45 PM EDT Start Location: 6 NNE Mandarin / Duval County / FL Start Lat/Lon: 30.2271 / -81.6066 End Date: 07/07/2021 End Time: 4:51 PM EDT End Location: 4 S Arlington / Duval County / FL End Lat/Lon: 30.2808 / -81.6078 Survey Summary: National Weather Service damage survey found that the tornado initially touched down along San Ardo Drive, just northeast of Beauclerc area of Duval County, where large tree branches were snapped, with damage to residences noted near Goodby's Creek. The tornado continued on a northward path through the San Jose area of Duval County, with EF-1 damage noted along Old Kings Road South and Powers Avenue, or just west of Baker-Skinner Park, where several trees were completely uprooted. One large pine tree was snapped and fell over a deck at the Heron Walk Apartment Complex. The tornado reached its peak intensity and width as it crossed Philips Highway and moved along Bowdendale Avenue, where significant damage was noted to several industrial buildings, including metal siding being completely ripped off of buildings as well as roofs being peeled back, with this debris being lofted to the top of a nearby radio antenna tower. The tornado crossed Interstate 95 near the Bowden Road interchange, with large tree branches snapped and more roof damage noted along Spring Park Road. The tornado then weakened as it impacted University Christian School and then just northeast of Englewood High School, where tree branches were snapped along Daryl Road. .Camden County Damaging Tornado... The survey found that the tornado then strengthened to EF-2 intensity, producing significant damage to residences along Conyers and Norris Streets in St. Marys before pivoting north-northwestward, producing EF-1 damage to a single wide manufactured home along Point Peter Road. The tornado reached its maximum intensity and width at the Eagle Hammock RV Park, when tornado was at EF-2 intensity, with max sustained winds of 130 mph. There were multiple recreational vehicles flipped over, with two completely flipped upside down. One RV was flipped and blown about 200 feet into a lake north of the RV park along with a pickup truck. Several hardwood trees at the park were also snapped.
