A mid level cold core low pressure system moved from northwest to southeast across portions of northwest and west central MN during a time of maximum heating. This helped to produce a string of low-topped thunderstorms and multiple cold core funnels along its path, at least one of which was able to touchdown as a weak and short tracking tornado. .TORNADO... Cormorant Township Tornado Rating: EF-1 Estimated peak wind: 95 mph Path length /Statute/: 1.5 miles Path width /Maximum/: 30 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start date: Jul 11 2020 Start time: 106 pm CDT Start location: 3 E Rollag / Becker County / MN Start Lat/Lon: 46.7390 / -96.1650 End date: Jul 11 2020 End time: 112 pm CDT End location: 5 WSW Cormorant / Becker County / MN End Lat/Lon: 46.7190 / -96.1730 SURVEY SUMMARY: A brief survey was conducted through the assistance of the Clay County MN Sheriffs Office and local residents. The thin rope tornado appeared to have touched near the center of Section 30 of Cormorant Township, and meander in a south to south-southwesterly direction. It hit an abandoned farmstead in the southwest edge of Section 31, and appeared to lift and dissipate shortly thereafter. It tore most of the roof off a barn and additional roofing panels off other farm buildings. EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale Classifies Tornadoes into the following categories.
