481 FXZS60 NSTU 180151 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 251 PM SST Fri Jan 17 2020 .Discussion...Tropical Cyclone Tino, now with max winds around 75 kts, is around 500 nm southwest of American Samoa and continues to track southeastward tonight through Sunday. Current IR satellite data continues to show bands of rainfall, associated with Tino, sweeping across the islands tonight with spiral bands expected to influence the region through early Sunday. Additionally, vertical model data and information from the latest NSTU soundings, supports northernly winds to 35 to 45 mph influencing the region through Saturday night. Overall, will continue to mention widespread rain, locally heavy, in the forecast through the weekend, with windy conditions as speeds increase to between 35 to 45 mph. As tropical cyclone Tino, drops further away from the American Samoan Islands to begin the upcoming work week, forecast data suggests much lighter winds and much drier conditions in mid and upper levels of the atmosphere. This pattern will generate some sun and only isolated to scattered showers through much of the upcoming work week. Also, much weaker winds can be expected Monday through Thursday of next week, as Tino weakens and continues its southeast trek. && .Marine...Will continue Gale Warnings across the American Samoan coastal waters through much of the weekend, as Tropical Cyclone Tino generates strong northernly winds in the region.
