...NWS Damage Survey For 04/18/2019 Thunderstorm Wind Event across Leon and Anderson
Counties...

During the pre-dawn hours of April 18, 2019...a squall line
moved through Central Texas. This squall line is known to have produced
wind damage across Leon and Anderson counties with peak winds estimated
to near 90 MPH.

.Leon County Thunderstorm Wind Event...

Peak Wind /Estimated/: 90 mph
Path Length /statute/: 36.89 miles
Path Width /maximum/: 50 yards
Fatalities: 0
Injuries: 3

Start Date: 04/18/2019

Leon County Emergency Management indicated substantial roof
damage to a poultry farm near the community of Marquez, as
damaging winds associated with a squall line approached from the
southwest. Noteworthy damage to vegetation near Marquez was
reported with an estimate of 20 to 40 trees snapped or uprooted.
Winds continued to do damage to mostly vegetation as they spread
northeastward towards the Interstate 45 and Texas Highway 75
corridor...where numerous hardwood and softwood trees were
uprooted or snapped. Most of these trees had very shallow root
systems and/or were diseased and surveyors capped peak wind
estimates at 70 mph.

Damage to a single-wide manufactured home south of Farm to Market
(FM) 1618 occurred as the structure was rolled once to the east
by the damaging winds. Two occupants were injured here and one
individual was ejected from the structure. The peak wind
associated with displacing this structure from its foundation was
around 85 mph. Slightly more intense damage was noted along FM
1511 just south of the community of Flo. A single family residence
suffered noteworthy roof damage consistent with 90 mph wind
gusts. In addition, discussion with the inhabitants revealed that
nearly a dozen trees on the residence property had been either
snapped or uprooted and required removal. One inhabitant at this
residence was injured due to flying debris.

Areas between the residence along FM 1511 and the community of
Oakwood are largely uninhabited, but occasional tree damage was
noted and was deemed to be consistent with 60 to 70 mph winds. The
damage across Leon County was largely sporadic and debris (both
from vegetation and structures) was all displaced in a west to
east fashion. This is consistent with non-tornadic winds with
pockets of more intense winds associated with higher magnitude
damage. It is determined by the survey that this is consistent
with straight line winds associated with a squall line.

.Anderson County Thunderstorm Wind Event...

Peak Wind /Estimated/: 70 mph
Path Length /statute/: 7.62 miles
Path Width /maximum/: 25 yards
Fatalities: 0
Injuries: 0

Start Date: 04/18/2019
Start Time: 0220 CDT
Start Location: 7.6 miles SW of Elkhart /Anderson County/
Start Lat/Lon: 31.5557/-95.6854

End Date: 04/18/2019
End Time: 0235 CDT
End Location: Elkhart /Anderson County/
End Lat/Lon: 31.6227/-95.5827

Very sporadic, but somewhat more concentrated wind damage was
noted to extremely rural portions of southwest Anderson County
along Red Town Road. Damage to a mix of hardwood and softwood
trees was deemed to be consistent with 70mph winds. While shallow
root systems were noted, there appeared to be several trees that
had been snapped or uprooted just north of Box Creek southwest of
the city of Elkhart in Anderson County along Red Town Road/FM 319.
Sporadic wind damage to mainly vegetation with some utility poles
snapped along the southwest side of Elkhart was also observed by
the survey team. Based on the largely sporadic nature of the
damage, it's probable that this was associated with straight line
winds associated with a squall line.

The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to
change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS
Storm Data.
