...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR APRIL 14, 2019 TORNADO EVENT...

.UPDATE #1...To include additional Phenix City/Columbus tornado
(collaborated with NWS Birmingham).

.Overview...
A strong storm system moved across the Southeast Region Sunday, 
producing areas of wind damage along with several confirmed 
tornadoes. Based on NWS Peachtree City ground surveys, and in 
conjunction with local/county Emergency Management, we have 
confirmed 3 tornadoes (as of midday Tuesday). 

NOTE...We are still in the process of collecting and analyzing 
additional data and storm reports from Sunday, so there may be 1 
or 2 more tornadoes confirmed over north/central Georgia in the 
next couple days.

Survey Summary:

A weak tornado embedded within a line of severe thunderstorms
began at the Phenix City Water treatment facility where several 
uprooted and snapped trees were observed along with substantial 
roof damage to the facility headquarters. It then moved north- 
northeast along State Docks Road before moving across the
Chattahoochee River.

The tornado crossed the Chattahoochee River between Rotary Park 
and 22nd Ave snapping a few tree limbs between Victory Drive and 
Blanchard Blvd. The short-lived tornado traveled nearly due north,
damaging a metal roof/awning and knocking out several gas pumps 
at a gas station off Martin Luther King Jr Blvd in the Avondale 
community. Metal panels were pulled off of a 1-story metal 
warehouse building off Cusseta Road, just south of the gas 
station. Maximum winds at this location were likely between 70-80 
mph. Moving just north, a large tree was uprooted and took out 
some powerlines along 17th Street, just west of Wildwood and 
Weracoba Parks. This was the last of the damage seen so the 
tornado lifted just beyond this location.

.Survey Summary:
An EF-0 tornado first touched down in extreme northern Muscogee 
County near the county line in a neighborhood along Deerwood Ct 
snapping a few pine trees. One home sustained minor shingle 
damage. The tornado continued northeast crossing McKee Road and 
Boyd Ct snapping approximately a dozen trees before passing 
through an uninhabited area near Randall Creek where NWS doppler 
radar first detected a debris signature. The tornado continued 
northeast crossing Ridgeway Road where it struck a hunting camp 
rolling 2 small trailers. Further northeast, it crossed Hwy 315 
near the Talbot and Harris County line also intersecting the path 
of the long track tornado from March 3. The storm continued 
northeast crossing County Road 71 where approximately a dozen 
trees were snapped or uprooted and finally dissipated north of 
Culpepper Road and south of route 208.


.LAMAR COUNTY TORNADO #1...

.Survey Summary:
The same storm responsible for the tornado in Harris and Talbot 
Counties regenerated a brief tornado in western Lamar County north
of Hwy 18 and along Five Points Road. Several trees were snapped 
and uprooted as well as a few powerlines downed along a short 
path. The tornado lifted before reaching Zebulon Road west of the 
town of Milner.

.Survey Summary:
The same line of severe storms responsible for tornadoes in 
Harris/Talbot Counties and in Lamar County, spawned a third 
tornado. This tornado touched down near the intersection of Weldon
Lake Rd and Silver Dollar Road where several trees were snapped. 
Additionally, trees were snapped and uprooted along Weldon Lake 
Road to the northeast. Numerous trees were snapped along Evans 
Road including one large tree on a carport. A house next to the 
carport sustained minor shingle damage. The tornado continued 
northeast intensifying as it hit the Morgan Dairy Golf Course 
where over 50 trees were uprooted or snapped. Numerous trees were 
snapped and uprooted as the tornado crossed Morgan Dairy Road 
where peak winds were estimated to have occurred. The storm hit a 
tree line north of Morgan Dairy Road snapping the trees in a 150 
yard wide swath. The storm crossed McKneely Road snapping trees 
and powerlines before crossing into Spalding County. A few trees 
were snapped along Swint Road and Ellis Dairy Road before the 
tornado weakened and dissipated.

following categories:

EF0...Weak......65 to 85 mph
EF1...Weak......86 to 110 mph
EF2...Strong....111 to 135 mph
EF3...Strong....136 to 165 mph
EF4...Violent...166 to 200 mph
EF5...Violent...> 200 mph
