...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 12/01/18 TORNADO EVENT REPORT #3...

.UPDATE...This is the third damage survey report from the NWS 
Lincoln office for the December 1 tornado event in west central
and central Illinois. 

The survey of the Taylorville IL tornado is NOT COMPLETE. The 
information listed below is PRELIMINARY and WILL BE UPDATED by
Monday evening, December 3rd.

Additional surveys will be conducted in the rest of Christian 
County northeast of Taylorville, Macon County, DeWitt County and
McLean County on Monday December 3rd.

SURVEY SUMMARY: The damage survey to determine the EF-Scale rating for 
this tornado will be completed on Monday December 3rd. Initial survey
information from emergency management indicated 34 homes severly 
damaged/destroyed, 66 homes with major damage, and 406 homes damaged 
but inhabitable.

Preliminary NWS EF-Scale ratings in the rural areas south and 
southwest of Taylorville are a high end EF-2 with estimated wind at 
120-130 mph with a maximum width of 1/2 mile.

EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale Classifies
Tornadoes into the following categories.

EF0...Weak......65 to 85 mph
EF1...Weak......86 to 110 mph
EF2...Strong....111 to 135 mph
EF3...Strong....136 to 165 mph
EF4...Violent...166 To 200 mph
EF5...Violent...>200 mph
