Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 95 mph Path Length /statute/: 6.17 miles Path Width /maximum/: 200 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 06/09/2025 Start Time: 08:43 PM EDT Start Location: 4 SW Chapin / Lexington County / SC Start Lat/Lon: 34.1229 / -81.4043 End Date: 06/09/2025 End Time: 08:49 PM EDT End Location: 2 E Chapin / Lexington County / SC End Lat/Lon: 34.1614 / -81.3084 Survey Summary: A National Weather Service Storm Survey Team confirmed an EF- 1 tornado south of Chapin in Lexington County. The tornado began on a peninsula of Lake Murray along Caro Lane, causing a swath of snapped large limbs and substantial tree debris. Continuing northeast, the tornado produced minor tree damage as it crossed Amicks Ferry Road. Further east, substantial tree damage was found on Lake Tide Drive with several dozen uprooted or snapped trees. Additional tree damage was found across Sandbar Road and Lazy Creek Court on the adjacent peninsulas. Numerous snapped limbs and debris were found around Crooked Creek Park and Old Lexington Highway and additional EF-1 damage behind Northshore Drive. The tornado crossed Highway 76 causing a mix of EF-0 and EF-1 tree damage along Crooked Creek Road and minor housing damage along Hollyoak Lane. The tornado then lifted northeast of Hollyoak Lane. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
