from the Post-Midnight Squall Line early Saturday April 29...

Survey teams from National Weather Service Brownsville/Rio Grande
Valley investigated wind damage from the McAllen/Mission area
through communities near the Rio Grande in southeastern Hidalgo
and southwest Cameron County on Saturday. 

Preliminary data from an assessment of numerous instances of
damage showed peak wind speeds ranged from 70 to 85 mph across
this area. Strongest winds were noted in portions of Mission and
McAllen and south of Weslaco to Progreso in Hidalgo County, and
between Santa Maria and Los Indios in southwest Cameron County.
Peak winds may have been a bit higher near McAllen/Miller
International Airport. 

The initial estimated time of damage was from 1215 AM in Mission 
to 115 AM between Harlingen and Los Indios.

Dozens of buildings had various levels of damage to roofs, siding,
metal doors, and soffits. Dozens of power poles were snapped or
uprooted. Two small aircraft were flipped over at McAllen/Miller
International Airport. Thousands of tree branches were broken and
hundreds of trees were snapped or uprooted. At the peak of the
storm, at least 150 thousand Rio Grande Valley utility customers
lost power, with the majority in Hidalgo County.

A detailed report will be provided Sunday or Monday, once data has
been thoroughly evaluated. A link to a map featuring specific
surveyed points will also be provided at that time.
