A severe squall line of thunderstorms progressed through southwest and mid Lower Michigan the evening of 30 March 2025. It produced numerous areas of downburst-related (straight-line) wind damage, and in some cases brief tornadoes also occurred. This is the 13th tornado in the state of Michigan that NWS meteorologists have been able to confirm from this storm complex, based on analysis of radar data and damage patterns. .Kent City Tornado... Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 95 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.6 miles Path Width /maximum/: 250 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: Mar 30 2025 Start Time: 558 pm EDT Start Location: 2 N Kent City / Kent County / MI Start Lat/Lon: 43.2475 / -85.7471 End Date: Mar 30 2025 End Time: 600 pm EDT End Location: 4 NNE Kent City / Kent County / MI End Lat/Lon: 43.2679 / -85.7316 Survey Summary: A short-lived tornado developed 2 miles north of Kent City, along 19 Mile Road a quarter mile east of Peach Ridge Ave. It moved north-northeast mainly through wooded areas for 2 minutes over a distance of 1.6 miles. Two houses along the path had EF-0 level roof damage. The damage path was initially 250 yards wide with scattered tree damage. It contracted to 125 yards wide where an open field abutted a wooded area with a dense mixture of hardwood trees. This was where the tornado briefly intensified and produced EF-1 level damage, with a high percentage of trees uprooted and several healthy trunks snapped or stubbed. Uprooted trees fell toward north-northwest and northeast in a convergent pattern. The tornado ended along Tyrone Ave a quarter mile north of 20 Mile Road. This damage survey was completed with the welcoming assistance of the affected property owners. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
