A severe squall line of thunderstorms progressed through southwest and mid Lower Michigan the evening of 30 March 2025. It produced numerous areas of downburst-related (straight-line) wind damage, and in some cases brief tornadoes also occurred. This is the 12th tornado in the state of Michigan that NWS meteorologists have been able to confirm from this storm complex, based on analysis of radar data and damage patterns. .Murray Lake Tornado in Kent County... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 75 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.4 miles Path Width /maximum/: 300 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: Mar 30 2025 Start Time: 600 pm EDT Start Location: 4 S Grattan / Kent County / MI Start Lat/Lon: 43.027 / -85.368 End Date: Mar 30 2025 End Time: 603 pm EDT End Location: 2 SE Grattan / Kent County / MI End Lat/Lon: 43.059 / -85.348 Survey Summary: A surge of thunderstorm wind occurred in the Alton area in Vergennes Twp, near 2 Mile Rd and Alden Nash Ave, to 3 Mile Rd west of Lincoln Lake Ave, where scattered tree damage was found. On the northwestern flank of this wind surge, damage was more evident of a tornado which developed southeast of Murray Lake, near 4 Mile Rd and Byrne Ave. A farm outbuilding collapsed and other buildings lost roofing material. Sheet metal was carried 0.4 miles to the north. The tornado downed about 25 trees in Grattan Twp, along 5 Mile Rd west of Lincoln Lake Ave. About a dozen more trees were down on the east side of Lincoln Lake Rd between 5 Mile and 6 Mile Rd. The path ended northeast of 6 Mile Rd and Lincoln Lake Ave. The tornado was moving with the storm's gust front at a speed of 60 MPH. There was a gap in concentrated damage beyond this tornado's end point, though radar data suggests the broadening wind surge associated with this tornado combined with another small wind surge which consolidated into the previously confirmed tornado west of Belding about 4 minutes later. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
