…Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week Continues…

With the peak of the 2025 severe weather season fast approaching,
the National Weather Service has designated the week of March 2nd
through March 8th as Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week. This is a
safety campaign designed to help residents in the states of
Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma prepare for the spring
severe weather season. During this week, the National Weather
Service will review the most important aspects of severe weather,
and highlight safety rules. A special public information statement
will be issued each day, along with various social media posts.

Today’s topic is….Watches, Warnings, and Reception.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches and Tornado Watches are issued by the
Storm Prediction Center, when atmospheric conditions are favorable
for the development of severe weather or tornadoes. Severe
Thunderstorm Warnings and Tornado Warnings are issued by your
Shreveport National Weather Service Forecast Office, when severe
thunderstorms or tornadoes are imminent, either as indicated by
Doppler radar, or when observed and reported by reliable sources
such as Skywarn spotters.

To protect yourself and your property from severe thunderstorms, it
is important to stay abreast of the latest weather conditions. You
can receive your Watches and Warnings through NOAA All Hazards
Weather Radio from the National Weather Service, as well as
monitoring television, radio, and the internet, including our social
media pages, and the homepage of the National Weather Service.
