...NWS Damage Survey for 05/01/2022 Tornado and Severe Wind Event...

.Overview...on May 3rd, the National Weather Service sent a damage 
survey team to investigate damage that occurred due to severe 
weather that impacted northern Pecos County and the city of Fort 
Stockton, Texas on the evening of May 1st.

Results from this survey indicate a tornado began over an open field 
approximately 5 miles west of State Highway 18 at mile marker 384. 
This tornado continued to track towards the southeast, becoming wrapped 
in rain and dissipating before crossing State Highway 18. No damage was 
found with this tornado. Path length and location is estimated from 
radar.

Results from this survey indicate a tornado began over an open field 
west of US Highway 67 at mile marker 816. This tornado tracked towards 
the northeast, remaining over open terrain, lasting approximately 10 
minutes before dissipating. No damage was reported with this tornado.

field approximately 2 miles north of Interstate 10 at mile marker 
267. This tornado was short-lived traveling southeast lasting 
approximately one minute, before dissipating. No damage was reported 
with this tornado. Path length and location is estimated from radar.

Results from this survey indicated that severe winds caused by the 
rear-flanking downdraft associated with the mesocyclone of a supercell 
north of Fort Stockton resulted in wind damage in eastern Fort 
Stockton. Two 18 wheelers were flipped on I-10 between miler markers 
260 and 261, nearby billboard signs were damaged. Near the interstate 
a metal out-building roof was ripped off and garage doors on another 
metal out-building were blown in. In Rooney Park, several travel 
trailers where moved off their jacks, one was flipped over, and two 
trees uprooted.
