461 NOUS42 KJAX 011834 PNSJAX Public Information Statement National Weather Service Jacksonville FL 135 PM EST Sat Jan 1 2022 ...DECEMBER CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR JACKSONVILLE... SUMMARY...High pressure dominated across the region for most of the month of December. Temperatures were above normal through much of December. There were a few weak front passages. The bulk of rainfall occurred from the 19th to 21st of the month, when a front stalled near the northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia border, and a subsequent low pressure system from the Gulf of Mexico tracked across northeast Florida on the 21st. The two in concert produced most of the 1 to 3 inch rainfall across the region, with above normal rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches along the Northeast Florida coastline of Saint Johns and Flagler counties during the period. The highest 24 hour rainfall in Jacksonville for December occured from December 20 to December 21 which was 1.28 inches, with 1.27 inches of that rainfall falling on December 21. The mean temperature was 63.4 degrees for the month of December 2021 where the climatological average for the month is 56.7 degrees. The highest temperature for the month occurred on December 11 and Dec 31 with a maximum of 83 degrees. The coldest maximum temperature for the month was 59 degrees on December 21. The minimum temperature for the month was 36 degrees on December 23. AT JACKSONVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT... TEMPERATURES...The average temperature for December 2021 was 58.3 degrees, which was 6.7 degrees above normal. The average daily high was 74.9 degrees which was 7.4 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 51.8 degrees, which was 6.0 degrees above normal for the month. RAINFALL...December rainfall amounts for Jacksonville was below normal. The monthly rainfall totaled 1.61 inches, which is 1.17 inches below normal. WINDS...The average wind speed was 5.6 mph. The peak wind speed was 25 mph from the northeast on December 20th. The peak wind gust was 37 miles per hour from the northeast also on December 20. FOR ENERGY CONSUMPTION PURPOSES...There were 60 cooling degree days which is 34 cooling degree days above normal for the month. There were also 100 heating degree days recorded during the month which is 185 degree days below normal for the month of December. JANUARY OUTLOOK...The outlook for January 2022 across southeast Georgia and northeast Florida forecasts a drier and warmer than normal period, with 50-60% chance for above normal temperatures as well as a 33-40% chance of below normal precip. The typical average temperature at Jacksonville in January is 54.2 degrees. The typical average maximum temperature is 65.5 degrees whereas the average minimum temperature is 42.9 degrees.
