The peak wind for the event is now reduced to 120 mph based on structural damage on E. Conyers St. in the City of St Marys, GA. .Overview...As Tropical Storm Elsa moved northward across the Florida Big Bend region and through southern Georgia, cyclic supercell thunderstorms developed, embedded in a primary outer rain band on Elsa's east side. As these supercells moved rapidly northward, damaging tornadoes touched down in south central Duval County and then over eastern Camden County. Both tornadoes produced significant damage, with the Camden County tornado resulting in approximately 17 injuries at the Eagle Hammock RV Park near the U.S. Naval Submarine Base at Kings Bay, GA. .Camden County Damaging Tornado... Rating: EF-2 Estimated Peak Wind: 120 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.65 miles Path Width /maximum/: 200 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 17, with 11 transported to a local hospital Start Date: 07/07/2021 Start Time: 5:44 PM EDT Start Location: 5 WSW Dungeness / Camden County / GA Start Lat/Lon: 30.7205 / -81.5469 End Date: 07/07/2021 End Time: 5:48 PM EDT End Location: 5 WNW Dungeness / Camden County / GA End Lat/Lon: 30.7732 / -81.5492 Survey Summary: National Weather Service damage survey found that the tornado initially touched down along East St. Marys Street, or just north of the St. Marys River, where tree trunks were snapped. The survey found that the tornado then strengthened to EF-2 intensity, producing significant damage to residences along E. Conyers and Norris Streets in St. Marys before pivoting north-northwestward, producing EF-1 damage to homes and apartments along Point Peter Road. The tornado reached its maximum width at the Eagle Hammock RV Park, when tornado was at EF-1 intensity, with max sustained winds of 110 mph. There were multiple recreational vehicles flipped over, with two completely flipped upside down. One RV was flipped and blown about 200 yards into a lake north of the RV park. Several hardwood trees at the park were also snapped.
