419 WWUS86 KLOX 061652 RFWLOX URGENT - FIRE WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 952 AM PDT Sun Sep 6 2020 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH 10 PM MONDAY EVENING FOR THE SANTA BARBARA COUNTY MOUNTAINS AND SOUTH COAST DUE TO GUSTY SUNDOWNER WINDS, LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY, AND VERY HOT TEMPERATURES... ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 10 PM MONDAY EVENING FOR THE LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTY MOUNTAINS DUE TO GUSTY NORTH WINDS, LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY, AND VERY HOT TEMPERATURES... .Strong high pressure will continue to bring a dangerous and record breaking heat wave with low humidities to Southwest California through at least Labor Day. Today will be the hottest day of the current heat wave with ALL-TIME record high temperatures expected at some locations. The very hot and unstable conditions will bring a significant threat of large plume dominated fires. Gusty Sundowner winds across southern Santa Barbara county and gusty northerly winds in the Los Angeles and Ventura county mountains (especially near the Interstate 5 corridor) will likely bring critical fire weather conditions to these areas, resulting in the Red Flag Warnings for these areas. The critically dry fuels will result in a greater threat of fire ignitions as well as rapid fire growth. With an extremely hot air mass in place, the Sundowner winds will maintain very hot temperatures of 100 to 107 degrees with humidities 8 to 15 percent through much of the night in the foothills and wind exposed canyons of the Santa Barbara south coast. Strongest winds in the Santa Ynez mountains, as well as the foothills and canyons of the south coast. Winds will be lighter during the daytime hours and become onshore each day across the coast and foothills. * Relative Humidity...8 to 15 percent in the mountains, foothills, and wind prone coastal areas. * Temperatures...Record breaking maximum temperatures 95 to 112 degrees. Hottest temperatures today, especially foothills, lower mountains, and windy canyons. Very hot temperatures of 95 to 107 degrees will linger tonight in the foothills and wind exposed areas during the sundowner wind event. * Impacts...If fire ignition occurs, conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread, long range spotting, and extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property. In addition to the threat of a wind driven fire, there is a significant threat of large plume dominated fires with extreme fire behavior in areas where winds are lighter. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of gusty winds...low relative humidity...very hot temperatures, and critically dry fuels can contribute to rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution with potential fire ignition sources. Prepare now and assemble your emergency kits. && $$ CAZ253-254-062330- /O.CON.KLOX.FW.W.0003.200907T0100Z-200908T0500Z/ Ventura County Mountains / Los Padres National Forest- Los Angeles County Mountains / Angeles National Forest- 952 AM PDT Sun Sep 6 2020 ...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 10 PM PDT MONDAY FOR THE VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTY MOUNTAINS DUE TO GUSTY NORTH WINDS, LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY, AND VERY HOT TEMPERATURES... * Winds...Northwest to north 15 to 30 mph with local gusts to 45 mph tonight through Monday evening, strongest near the Interstate 5 corridor. * Relative Humidity...7 to 15 percent. * Temperatures...Very hot record breaking temperatures, with daytime highs of 100 to 113 degrees at lower elevations, and remaining in the 90s to around 100 degrees during the evening hours. * Impacts...If fire ignition occurs, conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread, long range spotting, and extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property.
