Rating: TSTM/Wind Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 81.8 miles Path Width /maximum/: 8.5 miles Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/22/2020 Start Time: 10:05 PM CDT Start Location: 12 WSW Hazlehurst / Copiah County / MS Start Lat/Lon: 31.8147 / -90.5924 End Date: 04/22/2020 End Time: 11:44 PM CDT End Location: 3 ENE Soso / Jones County / MS End Lat/Lon: 31.7623 / -89.2157 Summary: During the late evening of April 22nd, a severe thunderstorm was responsible for an extensive swath of significant damage across several counties in the southern portion of the NWS Jackson service area. The main corridor of focused and higher end wind damage was across southern Copiah to far southern Simpson, as well as all of northern sections of Lawrence, Jefferson Davis and Covington counties before dissipating across northwest Jones County. Based on a NWS damage survey of portions of this swath, along with accounts and assessments from local Emergency Managers, significant wind speeds across this swath ranged between 80 and 100 mph. Within the overall swath, there were generally 2 to 3 focused corridors, roughly running from WNW to ESE, where the greatest concentration of damage occurred. General dimensions of the swath can be described as roughly 80 miles long with a width of 6 to 8 miles where the greatest concentration of damage occurred. Damages across this large swath were primarily damaged trees and downed power lines. Tree damage was a combination of uprooted and snapped trees and was quite extensive and best characterized by hundreds of thousands of damaged trees. Downed power lines and broken poles were extensive as well across the swath. Additionally, many structures were damaged with degrees of damage from minor to major. All of this was due to a combination of the wind itself causing damage or by downed trees damaging the structure. Below is a list of some of the hardest impacted communities and roads by county: Copiah - Stronghope community and points east towards the river and across Duckworth, Pearl Valley and Beasley Roads with both structural damage to houses and trees down. Lawrence - New Hebron along with Crooked Creek, Cliburn Cemetery, N Pleasant Hill and Sutton Roads including Highway 42. Jefferson Davis - Highways 42, 13 and 541 along with W Whitesand, Williamson Mill, Smith Jones, and the Clem community. Covington - Communities across the north portions of the county which include Dry Creek Lake, south of Jayneville Road around Waterpark Road, and Dry Creek Park Road. Roughly 20 homes sustained structural damage in the area of Sellers Road between and near Salem Church Road and William Warren Road. .Red River Tornado...
