...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHARLESTON TO RESUME THE SEASONAL
SURF ZONE FORECAST ON MARCH 15...

Beginning with the early morning forecast on Friday, March 15,
and continuing through at least October 31, the National Weather
Service in Charleston will resume the issuance of the local Surf
Zone Forecast (SRF) and it's associated Rip Current risk.

The SRF is a public forecast product that relays surf zone and
beach forecast information for the beaches of south coastal South
Carolina and north coastal Georgia. The SRF is critical for both
the public and first responders, allowing them to plan for a
variety of hazards that can occur at the beaches. During the late
spring and summer the beach communities can swell to many times
their year-round population. This influx of people can make them
highly vulnerable given their unfamiliarity with the dangers of
the surf zone.

The SRF will be issued at least twice daily, once around 4 AM and
again around 4 PM. However, updates can be issued at other times
throughout the day if significant forecast changes have been made.

The SRF will contain the following weather elements:

- Rip Current Risk (Low, Moderate or High) and the associated Call
  to Actions

- Surf Height

- Weather

- High Temperature

- Winds

- Water Temperature

- Ultraviolet Index

- Tide Information
