.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1139 PM CDT Thu Oct 8 2026

High pressure remains over much of the southern CONUS, bringing
warm and dry conditions to the Ark-La-Tx. Afternoon highs should
be returning to the low 90s for Friday afternoon through much of
next week with very little in terms of rainfall.

Hurricane Isaias is on track to make landfall somewhere along the
Alabama coast or Florida Panhandle Friday evening as a low-end
Category 3 Hurricane. Direct impacts from Isaias will stay far
east of the region as the storm moves ashore. However, fire danger
concerns will likely be heightened Friday afternoon and possibly
into Saturday due to stronger gradient winds. Areas could see
winds occasionally gusting around 25 kts with drier continental
air moving in from the northeast, which could contribute to easy
fire starts and fire spreading. A Fire Danger Statement has been
issued for areas along and south of I-30 for much of the day
Friday to highlight these conditions in addition to the continued
drought across the region. Depending on how Isaias behaves once it
moves onshore Saturday, this statement could need an extension.

Upper-level ridging is expected to rebuild across the southern
Plains in the wake of Isaias and spread across TX and LA early
next week. This will bring back unseasonably warm high
temperatures in the low to mid 90s. The northwesterly wind shift
immediately behind Isaias should push more dry air into the
region Sunday, but eventually give way to tropical southerly flow
that will feel closer to summer than it would to mid-October.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 102 AM CDT Fri Oct 9 2026

For the 09/06Z TAF update, subsident, dry air remains as
predominant weather influence as the easterly surface wind field
around Hurricane Isaias begins to shift east of the Mississippi
Rive valley. As it does so, VFR vis/cigs are expected to prevail
through the period with easterly winds at 5-10 mph. /16/

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 145 PM CDT Thu Oct 8 2026

We have issued a Fire Danger Statement for Friday from 10 am until
6 pm, when the surface winds will be brisk and potentially gusting
from 15 to 25 mph. Also, the relative humidity will be falling
off to the lowest levels for the daylight period. Caution is
advised and remember to check with your county or parish for burn
ban information. Similar conditions may exist for our area again
on Saturday, mainly west of I-49. /24/
