Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
202 PM CDT Thu Oct 8 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Chances (20-40%) for rain return late this evening and night for
mainly northwest Iowa. Thunderstorms are possible, some of which
will have the potential to be strong to severe.

Warming temperatures for the end of the week along with
strengthening southerly winds will result in elevated fire danger
across the area, especially on Saturday as high temperatures warm to
the 80s while dew points fall to the upper 40s and 50s, resulting in
lower humidity values down to about 25-40%. Winds will also be
strongest at 30-40 mph on Saturday, with isolated gusts up to 45
mph. Thankfully, the strongest winds look to reside east of the
James River while the lowest humidity will be displaced west of the
river. Fuels remain green from recent rainfall so will monitor how
much drier fuels get heading into Saturday. All this to say that
fire danger is high for Saturday as of now.
