.DISCUSSION...Today through Monday.

An elongated area of high pressure will build over the region
through the week, which will result in warming temperatures
temperatures. By Wednesday, temperatures will climb to above-
normal levels and then remain above-normal through at least
Saturday. The heat will peak on Thursday as HeatRisk reaches
Major in desert valleys with the aforementioned high centered
overhead. As a result, an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for
Thursday for Death Valley, the Las Vegas Valley, Pahrump Valley,
Moapa Valley, Colorado River Valley, southern Mohave County, and
southeastern San Bernardino County. Late-week into the weekend,
temperatures will gradually cool, with Minor-to-Moderate HeatRisk
in many locations. Despite the high over the Southwest US, the
flow will not be favorable for monsoonal moisture to return to the
region and generally a dry forecast is expected. However, weak
moisture squished under the upper-level ridge could produce
isolated thunderstorms in the Sierra and terrain of the southern
Great Basin Wednesday and Thursday due to strong daytime heating
and weak upslope flow. Confidence in convective development and
placement is low at this time.

Decent model agreement that an upper-level trough will push through
the Pacific Northwest toward the end of the week. While the system
will remain too far north to result in precipitation over the
region, an increasing pressure gradient will bring breezy south-to
southwest-winds to the region. Widespread gusts 25-35 MPH are
expected, with over a 50% chance of gusts over 40 MPH in the
western Mojave Desert Friday and Saturday. There is also a signal
for enhanced southerly winds up the Colorado River Valley, peaking
on Saturday, which could impact boaters with winds and waves.

clouds at times. Temperatures should top out right around 100F by
