Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Riverton WY
1126 AM MDT Sat Oct 8 2022

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Monday night)
Issued at 345 AM MDT Sat Oct 8 2022

There is not a lot to talk about for the next few days as ridging
should bring quiet weather into the first part of next week. We do
have a few areas of lingering low clouds today and there will be
some passing high clouds at times but all in all a pretty nice start
to the weekend with near normal temperatures.

Sunday at this point looks like a beautiful day, almost a perfect
fall day with comfortably warm temperatures, a mainly clear sky and
light wind. And to present the details, here is a poem entitled
"The Perfect Fall Day."

There is something special this time of year
That causes most people to let out a cheer
Something that is almost sure to enthrall
That is a perfect weather day in fall.

A day with a nip in the early morning air
That then gives way to mild temperatures oh so fair
A day with hardly a cloud in the sky
When you can see the migrating birds flying so high
A day that is perfect for outdoor sports
Whether played on fields, courses, or courts
A day that is perfect to get lost in a corn maze
Or gaze at the foliage that has colors ablaze
A day that is comfortable enough for short sleeves
While children of all ages play in the fallen leaves
A day when it is perfect for people to gather
At a game, festival, or backyard, it doesn't matter

Most people treasure these days because they know
Soon will come cold temperatures and falls of snow
So get out on Sunday and escape the daily fray
To enjoy what most would think is the perfect fall day.

Now back to your regularly scheduled discussion. Some lee side
troughing will begin to develop on Monday. And with the pressure
gradient tightening a bit, it will become somewhat breezier but
nothing notable. By Monday night a cold front will move into Montana
and may bring a change in the pattern on Tuesday. My colleague will
have more on that in the long term discussion.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Friday)
Issued at 345 AM MDT Sat Oct 8 2022

A weather system will push through the northern and central
Rockies Tuesday into Tuesday night. Decent cold air advection
with this system, and wind gusts with the frontal passage will
be over 40 mph in many places. Showers will develop over northern
WY Tuesday morning. This activity will shift southward Tuesday
afternoon and evening, as the front and weather system progresses.
Mountain snow will occur, but not only light amounts are expected.
The showers end late Tuesday night or Wednesday morning in the
east and south zones. High temps Tuesday will be mild ahead of the
front with falling temps post cold front. Wednesday looks to be
dry for most places. Cannot rule out a few rain or snow showers in
northern Bighorn mountains Wed. There is some indication of a
second cold front that may push into the eastern zones Wed night.
The GFS and ECMWF models seem to agree with this in their 00Z runs.
Dry weather is forecast for Thursday and Friday in a northwest
flow aloft. A cool day Wednesday, but not that abnormal for October.
Highs Thursday in the west will be warmer, with less warming east
of the divide. May still need to trim some highs in the east zones
Thursday if that second cold front does come true. Friday looks
milder over the area.
