A few hours of high to very high grassland fire will be possible
across south central and southeast Kansas today.
A critical to extremely critical fire weather day is expected
tomorrow with GFDI values hitting extreme to catastrophic over north-
central and central Kansas. Very strong gusty winds associated with
a storm system will accompany dry air and very warm temperatures.
Timing of a dryline will be important in figuring out where the
greatest fire risk will be. Think we could possibly see this dryline
progress faster than expected as our area gets dry slotted due to
positioning of upper level trough. As of now that looks to be west
of the Kansas Turnpike. For southeast Kansas the forecast gets a bit
tricky due to more extensive cloud cover and low level moisture
return.
