.SYNOPSIS...
An approaching storm system will bring rain as well as snowfall
mainly above 7,000 feet to areas primarily north of Kern County

.DISCUSSION...
The passage of a weak front and persistent stratus have kept
current temperatures down by as much as 10 degrees in the valley
and foothills, to 20 degrees lower in the Kern County mountains
compared to this same time yesterday. Low stratus will continue
into the evening hours with some minor clearing by morning.

A disturbance currently at 35N/130W is moving along the periphery
of larger scale synoptic trough. Latest guidance brings this
feature into the region late Monday through Tuesday evening.
Precipitation will initially begin in Yosemite as well as Merced
and Mariposa Counties by Monday evening. Precipitation will then
spread southward across the district over the course of Tuesday.
General amounts in the valley will range from 0.5" to 1" in Merced
and Madera Counties, 0.25" to 0.50" for Fresno, and 0.10" to
0.25" in Kings and Tulare Counties. Less than 0.10" is expected
in Kern County. The heaviest precipitation will remain confined
mostly in the Sierra mountains and foothills from Fresno County
north into the Yosemite area. Snowfall will start as early as
Monday evening in Yosemite area, eventually moving south into
Kings Canyon NP by Tuesday morning. Snowfall amounts of 6" to 12"
with isolated amounts up to 18" area possible and a Winter Weather
Advisory will go into effect Monday evening through Tuesday
afternoon. As the system exits the region, strong gusty winds may
be possible in the Kern County mountains and desert.

After this system moves out of the area, ensembles are in good
agreement with a strong ridge of high pressure building into the
region from Wednesday through the end of the 7 day forecast period.
This will lead to dry conditions, above average temperatures, and
chances of morning fog in the valley.
