...Discussion from Los Angeles/Oxnard...

...HOT AND DRY INTERIOR AREAS WITH ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER CONDITIONS THROUGH AT LEAST SUNDAY, ESPECIALLY THIS
WEEKEND...

Isolated thunderstorms remain possible over the mountains and
deserts of Los Angeles County into this evening. While not in the
forecast at this point, there is a small chance for additional but
still isolated thunderstorms mainly over Los Angeles County on
Friday. Any lightning strike poses a fire start risk based on the
current state of the fuels.

High pressure aloft peaked on Wednesday and will steadily weaken
each day through early next week. Despite this trend, the high
will remain relatively strong through the weekend, with hot and
dry conditions across our interior valleys, mountains, and deserts
including the warmer coastal valleys. Highs between 98 and 108
will be common Friday, lowering to 92 to 102 by Sunday. Minimum
humidities between 8 and 15 percent will be common through Sunday.
Overnight lows will remain warm, with lows between 65 and 75
common in general, and between 75 and 85 in the mountains and
foothills with very poor overnight humidity recoveries under 20
percent. Southwest winds will increase each day through Sunday
over the interior areas, with gusts between 15 and 30 mph common
Friday, increasing this weekend to gusts between 20 and 40 mph.
The combination of these winds and the persistent hot and dry
conditions will maintain elevated to brief critical fire weather
conditions, most prevalent over the weekend. Meanwhile, a shallow
marine layer will continue to moderate coastal areas through
Friday with little change, but should expand some this weekend.
This includes over Santa Barbara County, where Sundowner activity
should be minimal to none through at least Saturday. Cooling and
moistening likely Monday through at least Wednesday, but gusty
onshore winds over the interior will continue.

...Discussion from Monterey...

Some convective clouds are currently passing over Monterey county
from south to north and we will continue to watch those for the
threat of any dry lighting which looks unlikely at this time.
Otherwise very hot and dry conditions continue this evening with
little or no night time humidity recovery. Hot and dry weather
continues on Friday though temperatures may cool a few degrees as
a stronger westerly seabreeze develops. Gradual cooling trend
through the weekend into early next week as the marine layer
returns and a low pressure trough develops off the coast while
high pressure weakens.
