.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 303 AM CDT Thu Jun 3 2021

Mid-level water vapor imagery this morning showed the trough that
has been in place over the central CONUS beginning to move
eastward, with mid and upper heights expected to increase going
into the weekend. At the surface, a quiet start to the forecast
period is expected as ridging builds in with the main feature of
note being an abnormally warm airmass; especially for areas north
of Nebraska and Iowa where records are in jeopardy this weekend.
More locally, we are expected to have southerly to southwesterly
surface winds that are expected to increase into the weekend along
with the high temperatures. Highs by Saturday are expected to push
well into the lower 90's. While Saturday is currently expected to
be the hottest day, Friday through Sunday are expected to breach
90 degrees. In terms of rain and storm chances, we are expecting
dry conditions to hold on into Sunday as most of the storm action
along with any good forcing is steered to the north by the upper-
level flow. This warmth should really get the area into feeling
like we've made it to the meteorological summer.

Sunday afternoon into Monday, the global models are all in good
agreement that an approaching cold front makes it's way to the
forecast area, bringing with it rain and storm chances. One thing
that isn't as well agreed upon is the coverage of rain and storm
chances, as the center of the main surface system is expected to
be well into Canada and leaving eastern Nebraska and western Iowa
with a rather weak looking front. Going into the work week, a weak
subtropical mid-level low is expected to slowly push northward
from the Southern Plains and give the area more chances for rain
and storms through the rest of the forecast period. High
temperatures aren't expected to fall hardly at all after Sunday
afternoon/nights cold front, with highs in the upper 80's to near
90 expected through at least Thursday. Looking just slightly past
Thursday, not much in terms of relief is on the horizon as our
warm spell looks to continue perhaps even beyond next weekend.
