and Prowers counties...

...A Red Warning has been issued from noon until 8 PM Wednesday
for gusty winds, low relative humidity values and dry fuels for
fire weather zone 224 which includes the San Luis Valley...

.Discussion...

Critical fire weather conditions will continue through this evening
as high winds spread across southern Colorado. Extreme fire conditions
will be possible with any fire starts as wind gusts to 60 mph will be
possible through the evening. A sharp wind shift will occur behind a cold
front late this afternoon and evening as winds shift out of the north.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible across northern
portions of the southeast plains with a wet snow possible across the
central mountains, Teller and northern El Paso counties. A quick inch
or two of snow will be possible, with mainly some slushy conditions at
times on grassy surfaces for the lower elevations of the Palmer Divide.
Winds will decrease after midnight, but increase again across the area
on Wednesday. Critical fire weather conditions will return across the
San Luis Valley with spotty near critical fire weather conditions
possible across the I-25 corridor. Although winds will gust to near 50
mph across the far eastern plains, humidity values are expected to remain
above critical thresholds.

It will be breezy again on Thursday with the potential for critical to near
critical fire weather conditions to return to the valleys, I-25 corridor and
far southeast plains. A cold front will bring cooler conditions for Friday,
though the valleys will be prone to the return of critical fire weather
conditions each day as breezy northwest winds spread down into the lower
elevations each day into the weekend. Then next chance for showers will
arrive for the mountains late weekend into early next week as another
storm system approaches.

Very good ventilation rates expected Wednesday and Thursday due to breezy
winds each day.

--- thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds ---
