320 FXUS64 KMOB 191808 AFDMOB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Mobile AL 1208 PM CST Tue Jan 19 2021 .NEAR TERM /Now Through Wednesday/...Zonal flow over the Southeast will see a building ridge over the Southern Plains and a shallow trough forming over eastern portions of the Southeast as an upper level shortwave trough digs south over the eastern Conus. A weak cold front will move south over the southeast this afternoon through tonight, eventually stalling near the northern Gulf Coast early Wednesday morning. A very dry airmass is present over majority of the Southeast, with little rain indicated by radar stretching in a band from northwest Louisiana across central Mississippi to northern Alabama reaching the ground. For the forecast, with the dry airmass in place over the forecast area, any significant rain reaching the ground is expected to be confined to northernmost portions of the forecast area and points north, in a band of higher Gulf moisture stretching across this area. Temperatures over most of the forecast area are expected to rise to well above seasonal norms this afternoon, topping out in the upper 60s to around 70 over most of the forecast area, the exception will be a band across northern-most portions of the forecast area seeing increased cloud cover and a bit of evaporational cooling, with temperatures rising into the low 60s these portions of the forecast area. Tonight, low temperatures around seasonal norms are expected, with a bit below along and north of Highway 84 and a bit above south. Low temperatures mainly in the 40s across the forecast area are expected. Wednesday, cooler air will move south across portions of the Southeast, with areas along and north of Highway 84 affected the most over the forecast area. Any residual rain will have moved off with the passing upper shortwave system. High temperatures ranging from around 60s along and north of Highway 84 to upper 60s closer to the coast. /16 && .AVIATION... 18Z issuance...VFR conditions expected through the forecast. There will be a decrease in CIGs this afternoon through tonight as a weak cold front moves south across the Southeast, stalling along the coast by Wednesday morning.
