Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Key West FL
1040 AM EST Sat Jan 2 2021

.DISCUSSION...
Mean layer ridging centered to the east of the Florida Keys
supports moderate to fresh southeast breezes. Temperatures are
near 80 with dewpoints in the lower 70s. Weak confluence along a
relic Cuban land breeze has maintained a thin line of showers
which currently is pivoting through the Lower Keys. The forecast
calls for winds to decrease through the afternoon as the stalled
frontal boundary over the Gulf of Mexico meanders to the
southeast. No changes planned or needed.

&&

.MARINE...
Small Craft Should Exercise Caution over Hawk Channel and the
Straits of Florida until winds decrease. From synopsis, moderate
to fresh southeast breezes will trend downwards over the next
couple of days as a ridge axis across Florida migrates southward.
A front will limp across Keys waters late Sunday night through
Monday. Moderate to possibly fresh northerlies will ensue Monday
afternoon into Tuesday.

&&

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions will continue to be the predominant through the
afternoon and evening. That said, a few light and fast moving
showers will pass over or near the EYW terminal over the next
couple of hours and could bring brief MVFR CIGS AOA FL028.
Otherwise, southeast winds will continue and will be gusty at
times.
