Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western and Central North Dakota
National Weather Service Bismarck ND
310 PM CDT Tue Oct 6 2020

...RED FLAG WARNING FOR CENTRAL AND MUCH OF WESTERN NORTH DAKOTA
INCLUDING THE JAMES RIVER VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...

Cloud cover across northern and eastern North Dakota has resulted in
lighter winds and higher relative humidity this afternoon than
originally expected. It is becoming increasingly unlikely that wind
and humidity will exceed warning criteria for several hours. Will
wait until peak heating arrives late in the afternoon to make any
changes to the ongoing warning. But the overall message is that
this will be a lower end event than previously thought.

Meanwhile, near critical fire weather conditions are being observed
in southwest North Dakota, where sunshine is plentiful. It still
does not appear that thresholds for wind and humidity will be met
for long enough of a duration to warrant an expansion of the Red
Flag Warning.

On Wednesday, relative humidity may fall into the 20 to 25 percent
range across western North Dakota, but winds are expected to remain
under 15 mph. It will be breezier farther to the east, but with
higher humidity values.

A dry and warm pattern with breezy conditions at times looks to
continue into the weekend.
