Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Key West FL
1032 PM EDT Thu Jul 9 2020

.DISCUSSION...
Currently - A low pressure system near the Carolina Coast reaches
southward into the Florida Peninsula, resulting in a split surface
through lower level ridge across our area. Winds are light and
variable. Some lower level drier is is wrapping around the Gulf
portion of the ridge into our area. this evenings sounding
indicated a good amount of dry air between around 650 mb and 900
mb. There is also a hint of weak low level inhibition. As a
result, shower activity have been quite sparse across the Keys
this evening.

Short Term Update - Surface winds will remain light due to the
nearby col, however a light westerly flow should develop across
most areas as the trough pushes a bit further south. The weak flow
and the drier air through the low levels will help to keep
convective activity down. With that said, as nocturnal confluence
sets up, a few showers and thunderstorms will be possible.
Overnight lows will be in the lower to mid 80s with dew points
holding in the mid 70s.

.MARINE...

initially across Keys waters. A trough pushing a bit further down
into Florida will result in a prdominately light westerly flow by
morning. Only minor adjustments made in the evening marine
update.

VFR conditions expected at the island terminals. Surface winds
will be light and variable, becoming light westerly.
