Quiet evening with clear skies now that one batch of cirrus has 
moved east over the Appalachians. Sfc high pressure is now centered 
over the Ohio River Valley, and winds have gone calm at several 
observing sites. Temperatures have dropped off into the mid 20s to 
lower 30s. River valleys and other typically cool areas are expected 
to dip into the teens late tonight into early Saturday. More SCT 
cirrus will spread overhead from the NW on Saturday.

Strong Canadian high pressure settles over the region tonight, 
before pushing off to the mid Atlantic Coast tomorrow. As a result, 
the weather will stay dry in the short term, with another chilly 
night on tap. Given light and variable winds, low dew points in the 
teens, and mostly clear skies overnight temps should settle into the 
low 20s in most spots. However, a few of the typical cool spots will 
likely find their way into the upper teens. 

With the surface high pressure shifting east tomorrow, we'll see a 
light southerly return flow set up, and combined with plenty of 
sunshine should help temps rise a couple degrees on either side of 
50.

.Long Term...(Saturday night through Friday)

Warming temps and dry conditions looks to persist through Sunday, as 
the region remains situated in the warm sector ahead of an 
approaching  Arctic cold front. Afternoon highs will be near seasonal 
norms as they approach the upper 50s to low 60s. Unfortunately, 
those temps will be the warmest we feel over the next several days.

Late Sunday night into early Monday morning, the cold front will 
begin diving southeast across the Ohio Valley, causing precip 
chances to ramp up. While rain will initially be scattered in the 
morning, coverage will increase throughout late morning and 
afternoon. As temps steadily decrease throughout the evening and 
fall below freezing, precip will likely undergo a transition from 
rain to snow by early Tuesday morning. Accumulations, if they occur, 
look to remain minor, especially given the sfc and soil temps.

Strong CAA behind the front will usher in our coldest air of the 
season, with temperatures about 20-30 degrees below normal through 
mid-week. As a result, morning lows Tues and Wed will be in the mid 
to upper teens across the region, with highs struggling to climb 
above freezing Tuesday. New record lows and cold maximum temps may 
even be in jeopardy! Otherwise, sfc high pressure looks to build 
into the Ohio Valley on the backside of the front, allowing for dry 
conditions and warming temps to return. Though afternoon highs will 
gradually warm into the upper 40s toward the end of the week, we 
still look to remain well below seasonal norms.

VFR conditions expected through the TAF period. North winds will go 
light and variable this evening, then increase slightly out of the 
south and southwest after sunrise Saturday morning. Expect only a 
few mid or upper clouds during the valid TAF period. Winds may
briefly become a bit gusty during the mid-afternoon hours of Sat
with gusts 15-20 kts.
