...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 10 PM PDT
SUNDAY FOR SANTA BARBARA SOUTH COAST AND MOUNTAINS DUE TO GUSTY
SUNDOWNER WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITIES...

...MODERATE TO STRONG NORTHERLY FLOW THROUGH SUNDAY WITH ELEVATED TO
BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTHWEST
CALIFORNIA...

...WEAK SANTA ANA WINDS WITH MODERATELY DRY CONDITIONS SUNDAY NIGHT
THROUGH MONDAY...

Northerly winds will persist across many portions of Southwest
California today through Sunday, with peak gusts between 30 and
50 mph common. These winds will affect southern and central Santa
Barbara County, the Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley,
Santa Monica Mountains and Central Coast. The strongest northerly
winds will be over the entire Santa Ynez Range and the Tejon Pass
Saturday night into Sunday, when isolated gusts of 60 to 70 mph are
likely (especially near Montecito Hills and Whitaker Peak). While
humidities will generally remain above 20 percent across the higher
mountains (where winds will be strongest) with moderate recoveries
at night, humidities will generally lower to between 10 and
20 percent across downslope areas each day through Sunday. The
combination of moderate to locally strong sundowner winds combined
with low humidities and dry fuels has resulted in the issuance of
the Red Flag Warning for the Santa Barbara south coast and mountains
later this afternoon through Sunday evening. There will be
widespread elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions for
many other portions of Southwest California through Sunday due to
the northerly winds and areas of low humidities.

The winds are expected to shift to northeasterly Sunday night into
Monday. These winds look weaker than previous projections, and
humidities look slightly higher. Elevated fire weather conditions
will continue into Monday due to the offshore winds, lingering low
humidities, and warm conditions, with highs between 85 and
95 degrees in warmer coastal and valley areas.

...Discussion from Monterey...

Cool temperatures and onshore flow is expected on Friday. A weak
front will pass over the Bay Area providing a small chance for light
rain for the North Bay Friday night and into Saturday morning.
Accumulations will be minimal. Behind the front, localized weak
offshore flow and low humidities is forecast for the Santa Lucia
Mountains Friday night. A gradual warming trend is expected for the
weekend before a more robust warming trend early next week. Long
range models are still suggesting that the middle of next week could
see a chance for a larger offshore flow event.

Note : All winds are 20-foot Winds Unless otherwise specified.
Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds.
