This bulk download tool provides the NWS text
in a raw form, hopefully directly usable by your processing system.
You can either provide a complete 6-character PIL/AFOS ID or provide
the 3-character base ID (e.g., AFD). The start and end
dates represent 00 UTC for those dates. The Zip format is useful as
the filenames will have the product timestamp, which is useful for
when the product format has ambiguous timestamps.
686 FXUS65 KVEF 112208 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 308 PM PDT Mon Mar 11 2019 .SYNOPSIS...A couple of low pressure systems will affect the region through Wednesday bringing chances for rain showers and mountain snow showers along with gusty winds at times. Temperatures will remain below normal through the middle of the week then an area of high pressure builds and allows temperatures to climb back to normal by the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... Tonight through Wednesday...We will see scattered to numerous showers developing this evening and overnight across southern Nevada and points to the south as a large closed low southwest of San Diego lifts toward Yuma by Tuesday morning. This more northeast track will bring the northern edge of the system over southern Nevada. Chances for measurable rain are now looking more likely from Las Vegas southward though amounts should generally be light...less than a tenth of an inch. However, some shower bands may produce locally higher amounts up to around a quarter-inch, especially over central and southern Mohave county. The Spring Mountains should see 1 to 3 inches of snow above 7000 feet overnight. Shower chances will diminish Tuesday morning through the afternoon as the closed low is kicked eastward by a fast moving trough dropping down from northwest Nevada. This will sweep a cold front across the entire forecast area Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning with widespread post- frontal north-northwest gusts 40 to 50 mph likely impacting most zones. The strong northerly flow on the back side of the exiting trough will remain through Wednesday afternoon before gradually diminishing Wednesday night. Thursday through Monday will bring fairly tranquil weather to our region as a mean ridge builds over the western states. The latest GFS and ECMWF are showing a weak trough moving underneath the ridge over southern California/Arizona Friday through early Saturday but little sensible weather is indicated other than holding temps down slightly. A noticeable warmup begins Saturday and continues through early next week with highs climbing into the 70s across the Mojave Desert region. && .AVIATION...For McCarran...North to northeast winds between 8-12 knots with periodic gusts up to 20 knots will continue into the early evening with lighter, variable winds overnight. Increasing cloud cover and lowering CIGs are expected this afternoon and evening as isolated to scattered showers approach from the south; best window for showers at the airfield will be 04z-10z. Showers at or near the airfield will lower CIGs at or below 5kft. Dry conditions expected after sunrise Tuesday along with increasing southwesterly winds in the afternoon. A cold front will usher in gusty northwest winds Tuesday night; gusts up to 35 knots possible. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...Northwest to northeast winds between 8-15 knots and periodic gusts will continue at most sites through the early evening. A low pressure system will bring isolated to scattered showers to airfields along and south of I-15 through Tuesday morning. Wind speeds expected to be light with showers; CIGs expected to drop to 4-8 kft with overnight showers. CIGs will lift Tuesday morning/afternoon Tuesday as low pressure tracks east. South to southwest winds will increase Tuesday ahead of strong cold front pushing through Tuesday night. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ DISCUSSION...Adair AVIATION...Boothe For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: http://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
