147 FXUS63 KEAX 232328 AFDEAX AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Kansas City/Pleasant Hill MO 628 PM CDT Thu Aug 23 2018 .Discussion... Issued at 403 PM CDT THU AUG 23 2018 |An upper level short wave is currently pushing east across Missouri and is producing a large area of showers and very isolated thunderstorms. The western half of the CWA has received the most rainfall so far today with amounts up to near an inch along the Kansas/Missouri state line. For the rest of the afternoon, showers will continue across the CWA's southern counties. For tonight ingredients are coming together to produce the next round of precipitation. An upper level trof will rotate out of the Dakotas and into the region. Meanwhile, a strong low level jet of 40-45kts will setup across Missouri and interact with a weak boundary to produce lift/instability need for thunderstorms primarily across the northern CWA. Although some thunderstorms in the northern counties will have the capability to produce heavy rainfall in isolated areas with totals between 1"-2", there is a possibility of localized flooding. That said, the threat of severe weather is low. So while some locations did not get wet this afternoon, there is still a good chance for precipitation later tonight. Skies will begin to clear west to east tomorrow morning as the aforementioned upper level trof lifts into the Great Lakes. Upper level ridging will build into the area and temperatures will quickly rebound with Friday's highs near 90F. For the weekend, above normal temperatures will remind everyone that its still August with highs in the lower to mid 90s. By Sunday, the next system in the upper midwest will try to move south towards our area. However, the threat of precipitation will be minimal for the extreme northern counties of the CWA and mostly likely just increase clouds and perhaps lower high temperatures a little bit. The next chance of rainfall will not come until Tuesday as a weak cold front will attempt to push south into the CWA. | && .Aviation...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Friday Evening) Issued at 628 PM CDT THU AUG 23 2018 A few light rain showers and MVFR ceilings will push eastward into the terminals over the next few hours, bringing currently VFR cigs back to around 1900-2200 ft. These ceilings will gradually lift tonight, but will likely linger in the MVFR category (possibly wavering around the 2 kft threshold) through 06z-09z. Isolated storms are still expected to develop after 04z tonight, but will most likely be east of all terminals, and will continue to build east with time. Clearing skies should develop along with south southwest winds by 12z Friday. && .EAX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... KS...NONE. MO...NONE. && $$ Discussion...32/Otto Aviation...Laflin
