748 AWCA82 TJSJ 222120 RWSPR Weather Summary for Puerto Rico National Weather Service San Juan PR 520 PM AST Sun Jul 22 2018 Skies became mostly cloudy across the region during the day. The heaviest clouds and showers developed in the Culebrinas River basin from Utuado to Aguada where 2 to 3 inches of rain fell. Other areas that saw heavy rains were the municipalities of Penuelas and northern Ponce where up to 2.5 inches fell. Moderate to fresh sea breezes developed in the easterly flow today with winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts to the mid 20s. Highs ranged from the lower 90s on the southwest coast to the upper 70s. San Juan had a high of 88 degrees, with a peak wind of 28 mph and no rain as of 5 PM AST. Some rain was seen south and west of the airport. Moisture from the low-level trough will gradually move out of the area beginning tonight, but residual showers will be left overnight tonight--mainly on the eastern half of the island. The easterly winds will become light with land breeze influences. Overnight temperatures will drop into the mid 60s in the higher mountain valleys and to around 80 in the lower windward elevations. There will be less shower activity on Monday, but showers are expected in the northwest part of Puerto Rico again during the afternoon and showers are possible in most of the interior of the island and downstream from higher mountains and the local islands. Across the local waters, east winds of 10 to 15 knots and seas of 3 to 5 feet will prevail in exposed waters. There is a moderate risk of rip currents across some of the local beaches including most of the north coast, and parts of the southeast coasts of Puerto Rico and Vieques. $$ This product is issued around 5 AM and 5 PM each day and weather conditions may change between issuances.
