A hot airmass covered much of Iowa today with southwest winds common
area-wide. Temperatures climbed steadily through the day and topped
out from the upper 80s in the far north with lower 90s across much of
the rest of Iowa. A few storms had developed in north central Iowa by
late afternoon near Clarion and were moving slowly east. 

Active weather is forecast to continue from this evening through 
late Saturday as a front remains near Iowa. Storms tonight will occur
from in northeast Iowa this evening with additional storms into
southern Iowa by late evening into the overnight. Another round of 
storms is expected Friday evening into early Saturday as an upper 
level system crosses the region. A much stronger upper level system 
with strengthening upper level winds will cross the area Saturday into
Saturday evening. At this time the strongest system will be Saturday 
with the potential for more organized severe weather over the entire 
state. Along with the threat for strong storms... afternoon highs will
reach the lower 90s again Friday and Saturday. On Sunday much cooler 
air will overspread the region with a stretch of more comfortable 
temperatures and humidity expected through Tuesday. Highs will fall to
the 70s to lower 80s with lows in the 50s and 60s.
