Despite plenty of sunshine today, the frigid air will remain in place. Expect highs ranging from 5 below zero across southern Canada to 20 above zero in southern South Dakota. Dangerous wind chills to 40 below will continue from this afternoon through Thursday morning for most of the northern high plains. A brief warming trend is on the horizon. High temperatures will warm into the 30s and 40s on Friday for most of region. Highs in the mid 50s are forecast in southern South Dakota. $$ KS
