.DISCUSSION...

The pesky upper ridge centered over the Southern Plains will begin
to slowly slide west over the next few days. Unfortunately, that
means hot temperatures will stick around at many locations for at
least a couple more days. Midland Int'l has recorded a high
temperature of 100 degrees or more for the past 6 days and the same
story looks to be the case for today and tomorrow. There will not
be much in terms of rain chances tonight except for a few isolated
storms across portions of Eddy and Lea County and the higher
terrain. We will see temperatures drop a few degrees as the ridge
begins to slide a little further west and a cold front moves south
across West Texas and Southeast New Mexico by midweek. A shortwave
wrapping around the east side of the ridge could bring slight
chances for thunderstorms on Wednesday to parts of the Big Bend,
Lower Trans Pecos, and Davis Mountains. Otherwise, it will remain
dry for the rest of the area.

By the end of the week the ridge will strengthen a little bit over
New Mexico, but will put us under northeast flow aloft and cooler
850 mb temperatures will help keep highs in the mid to upper 90s. We
will stay above the normal of 94 for this time of year, but it will
be a pleasant break from the triple digit temperatures. Slight
chances for storms will also be possible in the Davis Mountains and
Big Bend area Thursday and Friday. In the extended, models show the
high pressure weakening a bit and an inverted trough moving west
across the northern Gulf Coast. This would be a welcomed pattern
change with more normal temperatures and increased rain chances
heading into early next week.
