A cold front trailed southwest from this low, through western Kentucky, then into east Texas. An upper level disturbance was moving eastward through central Kentucky. The Bluegrass Region had heavy rains on Sunday. Blue Grass Airport in Lexington set a new daily rainfall record for August 10, with 5.38 inches falling for the calendar day. Other heavy rains fell north of Salem, Indiana, and to the northeast of the Louisville Metro. These areas had up to an inch and a half of rain. South central Kentucky was the focus for heavy rainfall Monday morning. Amounts there ranged from an inch and a half to two inches over brief periods. Through noon CDT, the Kentucky Mesonet site in Metcalfe County had 1.97 inches of rain. Warren County Airport in Bowling Green had 1.54 inches during the same period. By early Monday afternoon, bands of showers and isolated thunderstorms were moving into the region from the northwest. Most of the region saw high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s on Sunday. Overnight lows were in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Readings at 3 PM EDT Monday were mostly in the lower to mid 80s. Some rainy areas had temperatures in the mid 70s. We can look for scattered showers and thunderstorms to taper off from west to east, tonight through Tuesday. Lows tonight will be in the mid 60s to around 70. Highs on Tuesday will range from near 80 to the mid 80s. $$
